Missions

Rwanda

The Marians established their Rwandan mission in 1984. The first mission was in the north of the country, in the Mwange parish, diocese of Ruhengeri. Since 1998, the Marians moved to a new parish — Nyakinama of the same diocese. The Formation House for the candidates to the Congregation, Postulants, and Novices is also located there.

The present challenge for our missionary service is undertaking work in Kibeho, diocese of Gikongoro — the site of first Marian apparitions in Africa. Our plans for a new community is complete. Work is currently in progress building a new retreat house.

Presently there are six Marian priests serving in Rwanda (another one is now in Italy). Our Apostolate concentrates its work on formation of the young people, particularly those who think of entering the religious way of life. We also perform ministry in its largest aspect — spreading of the Marian spirituality, and working for peace and reconciliation through helping victims of the fratricide.
